Changemakers on and off the field | April 13, May 2

The guests for the spring Changemakers webcasts have some things in common – they both played on the 2001 Fiesta Bowl champions team and went on to make a difference for students in Oregon. But their paths leading to and following Oregon State have been entirely unique! Here’s one for the history books: The OSU Libraries and Press and the University of Oregon Libraries collaborated to relaunch Oregon Digital, a rich archival collection of more than 500,000 historic images, manuscripts and publications.

» Two Oregon State faculty this year earned the highest faculty honor granted by the university. Congratulations to the 2023 University Distinguished Professors: Linus Pauling Institute Endowed Chair and Director Dr. Emily Ho (Nutrition) and Dr. Yanyun Zhao (Food Science and Technology).

» Kyle Proctor, M.S. ’21, Ph.D. ’22, uses mathematical modeling to understand natural systems and predict their development, calculating optimal water-use productivity for California almond farmers.

» Dr. Brea Sandness, DVM ’15, returned to the Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine, where she specializes in small animal surgery and inspires new classes of students to thrive in a challenging and competitive field.

» College of Engineering Assistant Professor Kaitlin Fogg led a team of researchers in developing a three-dimensional model for large scale screenings of drugs for cervical cancer, the fourth most common cancer in women. It will permit the simultaneous testing of hundreds of medications and help to identify more quickly those that can stop cancer invasion.
