Changemakers: Paying it Forward
For Jarvez Hall, ’05, the road to becoming a Beaver wasn’t easy. Recently named to Portland Business Journal’s “40 under 40,” Hall has parlayed the second chance OSU gave him into a successful business and education leadership career.
Today, Hall serves as the director of the East Metro STEAM Partnership. Focused on bringing STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) learning to underrepresented youth, he is instrumental in securing funding that removes barriers to technology and brings together industry and educators to provide experiences and open new opportunities.
Join a conversation moderated by Keith Dempsey, ’93, M.S. ’96, Ph.D. ’10, to hear Hall discuss his journey to OSU, playing on the 2001 Fiesta Bowl football team, becoming the first Black two-term Memorial Union Program Council president, his inspiring work championing the needs of underrepresented students in East Multnomah County and more.
About the speaker:
With over 10 years of educational leadership and business experience, Jarvez Hall, is currently the director of East Metro STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) Partnership — one of Oregon’s 13 STEM Hubs providing technical support to school districts implementing STEAM programs.
Throughout his education career, Hall has taught at Chemeketa Community College, Clackamas Community College, Eastern Oregon University, Warner Pacific University and Portland Community College. In addition to teaching, he has previously held roles with the East Metro Economic Alliance, the Oregon High School International Relations League, Ascent Funding, Small Business Majority and the City of Portland.
Hall earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Oregon State University and his Master of Business Administration from Willamette University. He is currently a doctoral candidate in leadership studies at Gonzaga University.
About the moderator:
With more than 20 years of experience in the fields of counseling, therapy and health care advocacy for African Americans, Keith Dempsey leads his own counseling and consulting practice in the Portland area. He is a founding member and chair of the OSU Black Alumni and Friends Network and has served on the Oregon State University Alumni Association Board of Directors, the OSU Alumni Council and the OSU Alumni Undergraduate Scholarship Committee. Dempsey was the 2023 recipient of the OSU Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Alumni Legacy Award.
