What has knees like an ostrich, the legs of a Beaver and holds a Guinness World Record? It’s Cassie: Oregon State University’s bipedal robot! Invented at OSU’s College of Engineering and produced by OSU spinout company Agility Robotics, Cassie recently established a world record for the fastest 100 meters by a bipedal robot.

What lies beneath a volcano? | Nov. 2

Join the OSU College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences, for the 2022 Thomas Condon Lecture online and in-person at The LaSells Stewart Center. The speaker, Kathy Cashman, will present on how scientists learn about volcanic eruption triggers and styles based on the conditions under the surface.

Documentary and discussion: To What Remains | Nov. 3

Leading up to Veterans Day, join OSU-Cascades and Project Recover President and CEO Derek Abbey, ’99, to view clips and discuss the documentary To What Remains, which features Project Recover’s mission to find Americans missing in action since World War II. You will also have the opportunity to learn about OSU military and veteran student-supporting programs.

Solving the underground impacts of wildfire

Wildfire poses obvious risks — and some not so obvious ones, like melting and contaminating critical water distribution pipes or electricity lines running underground. OSU civil engineer Erica Fischer is working with a team to create solutions for these beneath-the-surface impacts.

OSU-developed tool removes barriers to enrollment

OSU Ecampus developed a resource that will help students with the daunting college application process. Its videos walk students step-by-step through the Common Application, which students use to apply to more than 1,000 colleges in all states and 20 countries, research financial aid and scholarships and connect to college counseling resources.
