Get to know the Class of 2025

Congratulations to the newest Beaver graduates on their proud accomplishment! Last weekend, OSU celebrated Commencement weekend and conferred 8,257 degrees to a record 8,011 graduates: The youngest is just 18 years old and the oldest is 77. Students from all 50 states and 69 countries were among them.

LEARN ABOUT OUR GRADS

Beaver grads had a boot-stomping celebration

The OSU Alumni Association was honored to give graduates an exciting send-off with Grad Night 2025: Giddy Up Grads on June 5. Graduating seniors enjoyed food, drinks, games, prizes, dancing, a DJ, crafting — and some end-of-year “horsing around,” as evidenced by this video created by student employee Claire Delacourt, whose horse, Dora, wanted in on the fun. Grads also gathered at the Alumni Center immediately after Commencement on June 14 for Sweet Beginnings, a celebration full of special memories, sweet treats and countless photos, smiles and hugs.

Protect student access to the Pell Grant and philanthropic support

The U.S. Senate is currently considering H.R. 1, the ‘Big, Beautiful Bill.’ This legislation has the potential to significantly impact higher education institutions like Oregon State. The OSU Foundation & Alumni Association shares the university’s commitment to student success and understands that students benefit most when they have access to state and federal aid combined with philanthropy. That is why it is important that supporters contact their senators immediately and urge them not to create barriers for students. These changes would harm students’ ability to graduate from OSU and nationwide, so whether you are in Oregon or another state, take 90 seconds for this important issue now.

» OSU doctoral student Kayla Fratt and her shelter-rescue dog Barley are advancing cutting-edge wildlife research together. Barley is a conservation detection dog, trained to help locate wolf scat samples for Fratt’s doctoral research on Southeastern Alaska’s wolves. See the duo in action in Smells Like Science from the Oregon Stater.

» Scott Clark, ’08, founded a $30 million startup focused on making AI systems more reliable and trustworthy by creating better testing. “One of the things I loved about Oregon State was that they let me explore as much as possible,” said Clark, who followed his passions to triple-major in math, physics and computational physics at OSU.

» OSU acquired 3,110 acres of private forestland outside Northwest Portland that will become part of the Tualatin Mountain Forest, a research forest (OSU’s 10th) where the university will study what effects different types of logging practices have on tree diseases, pests and fire resilience. It will also support public access for recreation and offer K–12 educational opportunities.

» Drawing on experiences from the classroom to international study in the Netherlands to fieldwork in France, biochemistry and molecular biology student Emily Kaneshiro, ’25, is using her passion for wine science in the Curtin Lab, aiding research that strives to mitigate wildfire smoke taint in wine.

» As featured in the New York Times, the history and rapport of Chicago Cubs pitcher Matthew Boyd and catcher Carson Kelly — two Oregon State alumni — is building strong chemistry within the team and pushing them to greater heights this season. Boyd once hosted Kelly on a recruiting visit to OSU, and while Kelly took a different path in his career, he later graduated from Oregon State, earning his economics degree entirely online through OSU Ecampus.

» A human-powered submarine, a quarter-scale tractor and a wildfire management simulation video game are among the roughly 200 senior capstone projects presented by more than 850 students at Oregon State’s Engineering Expo 2025.

Report shows OSU’s impact on the state economy

For every $1 invested by Oregon, OSU returns $13.18 in value to communities across the state, a recent economic impact report found. With over 100 companies launched since 2013 through OSU innovation and entrepreneurship programs and university research generating $797.5 million in annual economic value and sustaining thousands of jobs each year, OSU remains vital to Oregon’s economic health and future growth.

» Oregon State continues to prove it belongs on the biggest stage in college baseball. Congratulations to the Beavers on another College World Series berth — their eighth all-time — that ended Tuesday afternoon. Their journey was powered not only by a team built to overcome adversity and competition, but by generations of Beaver donors who invested in the pillars of OSU's powerhouse program, from OSU's first endowed head coach position to the donor-funded hitting facility that’s catching national attention and praise (check out this inside look from MLB). Go Beavs!

» Get ready, Beaver Nation — the 2025 football schedule is locked in! Check out where to watch this season of Beaver Football in person or via broadcast.

» Beaver wrestlers dominated on the national stage as Joel Adams, Aden Attao and Justin Rademacher sealed World Team spots for Team USA at the Wrestling U23 Nationals and U20 World Team Trials.

»Vivian Light, ’25, balanced Division I athletics and leading her team in service aces with rigorous biology coursework and hands-on research, studying black rockfish at the Hatfield Marine Science Center. She hopes to stay at OSU for graduate school and eventually pursue a career in freshwater fish conservation.
