Commemorating King: A week of action | Jan. 20-30

Join OSU in honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with events that carry his legacy forward. On Jan. 20, the 2025 Legacy Awards will be presented, followed by the annual Peace March across campus. More events, including a day of service (Jan. 25) and a keynote by Ruha Benjamin (Jan. 30), invite all to help build a just, equitable world.

Hear 200+ tuba, euphonium and baritone horn musicians — including OSU music faculty and band members — belt out holiday classics in this free annual concert at Pioneer Courthouse Square. » Several of Oregon State’s world-class nuclear science and engineering faculty — Kathryn Higley, Camille Palmer, Brian Woods and Todd Palmer — have been tapped to lead federal advancements in nuclear research and safety.

» The Higher Education Coordinating Commission awarded OSU approximately $3.3 million in Workforce Ready Grant funding to help underserved communities prepare for good-paying, high-demand careers in key sectors of Oregon’s economy.

» Researchers from OSU and Washington State University are collaborating to create advanced robotic systems for orchards, including robots that thin apples, prune trees and pollinate blossoms using tools guided by computer vision and machine learning.

» Public policy student Audrey Schlotter, ’25, was selected to serve as a council member for the Coalition for Student Wellbeing: a new national advocacy group dedicated to enhancing college students’ mental health. Here at OSU, she also serves as the current student body president and a Homecoming Court Ambassador.

$2 million gift expands adaptive physical activity

Inspired by their own positive experience with IMPACT (a motor skills fitness program for children with disabilities), an anonymous donor family generously gave $2 million to help make the College of Health and OSU a national leader in adaptive physical activity. Their gift, as part of the Provost’s Faculty Match program, established the Endowed Chair for Equity and Inclusion for People with Disabilities to support the training of students and expansion of research to enrich the lives of countless young people with disabilities and their families.
