33rd Annual Tuba Christmas Concert | Dec. 21

For decades, OSU music faculty and band members have lent their talent to this free annual concert of 200+ tuba, euphonium and baritone horn musicians belting out holiday classics that draws people from all over to Pioneer Courthouse Square. The OSU Foundation proudly sponsors this event to cover the registration fees of the musicians, allowing them to participate for free.

Celebrate alumni who lead with purpose

Who in your network is driving change for more inclusive, empowered and respectful communities? Nominate extraordinary OSU alumni for the 2024 Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Alumni Legacy Award and ensure their efforts are recognized. Nominations are open through Friday, Dec. 6. The award will be presented during OSU’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration.

» OSU spinout company Agility Robotics' bipedal robot, Digit, made the cover of Time magazine’s “200 Best Inventions of 2024” issue. OSU Professor Jonathan Hurst co-founded Agility Robotics and serves as its chief robot officer.

» A recent study led by Naomi Fitter, associate professor of robotics and Kearney Faculty Scholar, reveals that toddlers show increased physical activity when playing with a moving robot. The research highlights the potential of low-cost robotic playmates to encourage healthier habits in young children by promoting more active play.

» Congratulations to Allison Myers, associate dean for Extension and Engagement and program leader for Extension Family and Community Health. She received the Oregon Public Health Association’s Policy Champion Award.

» OSU and Oregon Tribes collaborated to build a unique facility to assist with the repatriation and return of tribal ancestral remains and cultural items currently under the university’s stewardship, providing an example of how institutions can create repatriation policies through a truly consultative and respectful process.

» Oregon State researchers, led by Juliana Ranches from OSU’s Eastern Oregon Agricultural Research Center, have received $1 million to study feeding seaweed to cattle. The project could reduce greenhouse gas emissions — 9.4% of which are from the agricultural sector — and promote more sustainable beef production through a unique partnership with seaweed growers and the USDA.
