Join OSU Athletics special guests for Treasure Valley golf | Aug. 16

Prepare your putter! Beavs will gather once again in Caldwell, Idaho, for an annual scramble-format tournament (teams of four). With a lunch-only registration option for non-golfers who want in on the fun, the day of connecting in the Treasure Valley supports OSU Athletics and offers the chance to meet special guests: Louie Quintana, head coach, track and field and cross country, and Roberto Nelson, assistant athletic director, player development.

President Emeritus Ed Ray takes the stage at PRAx | Oct. 4 and 6

Two terrific contributors to the arts at OSU, President Emeritus Ed Ray and Professor Emeritus Charlotte Headrick, present a powerful, retrospective and funny performance of "Love Letters,” with all proceeds benefiting student scholarships in University Theatre. In the Pulitzer-Prize-nominated play, two friends — who might have been more — read the correspondence they have exchanged over 50 years.

» As a part of a three-university collaboration, wave energy experts from OSU will contribute to research and public information around the benefits and potential impacts of two offshore wind energy sites off Oregon’s coast that have the potential to add enough clean power to the grid to power about 830,000 homes.

» The elite athletes on the U.S. Olympic team will be sporting opening ceremony uniforms made with wool provided by Shaniko Wool Company. Owned by Jeanne Carver, M.S. ’79, a College of Education graduate and one of the 2024 OSUAA Changemakers, Shaniko previously provided the wool for Team USA’s 2014, 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics uniforms.

» Beaver chic: OSU’s fashion design and merchandising management program was listed on Vogue World Paris’ 2024 list of “The Best Fashion Schools for Design, Marketing, and More.”

» Angie Chown, M.S. ’11, an OSU-Cascades alumna and elementary school counselor in Redmond, Oregon, has been named the Oregon School Counselor of the Year.

» Two OSU students, Roberto Ponce Velez and Eliza Porter, were recognized by the Udall Foundation for environmental leadership and tribal public policy, selected from a pool of 406 candidates nominated by their academic institutions.

» Physics undergrad Phia Morton spent last summer studying in Pisa, Italy. She returned to OSU as the first author of a paper marking the first strongly supported instance of a black hole merger emitting light, deepening our understanding of the cosmos.

» Jade Carey secured a fourth-place overall finish in last weekend’s Olympic trials, earning her a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team once again! This marks her second Olympic appearance, having previously competed in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

» Three track and field Beavs also competed for a spot at the 2024 Olympics: Kaylee Mitchell, Kate Sorenson and Grace Fetherstonhaugh. While the Beavs were unable to secure a trip to Paris, Mitchell eclipsed her previous personal best by nearly seven seconds and placed fifth in a race that featured five of the 10 fastest times in U.S. history.

» Beaver Baseball’s season ended last month with a close-fought super regional game, finishing with a 45-16 record. Five Beavs overall — Travis Bazzana, Bridger Holmes, Aiden May, Gavin Turley and Jacob Kmatz — have been named to All-American teams by multiple organizations, the second-most in a single season in Oregon State history.

» “I am so appreciative of the opportunity to represent our program positively, not just on the field, but also within the community,” says forward Ellis Spikner. Learn about the OSU men’s soccer team’s recent work with Corvallis elementary schools.
