Luhui Whitebear, ’03, ’13, MA ’16, Ph.D. ’20, has spent more than 20 years at Oregon State. Now, as director of the Kaku-Ixt Mana Ina Haws (formerly called the Native American Longhouse Eena Haws), she uses her wealth of wisdom to support Native and Indigenous students.
A peek into the far-off past
George Poinar Jr., from the Department of Integrative Biology, has uncovered first-of-its-kind fossil evidence. A 40 million-year-old pine cone encased in amber shows several embryonic stems sprouting in a rare botanical condition known as precocious germination.
