In honor of Benny the boxer
To celebrate the memory of their lovable boxer, Sarah Garver, D.V.M. ’18, and her husband Mitch, created the Benny Garver Endowed Scholarship.
“Even before leaving school, my husband and I knew at some point we wanted to do some sort of scholarship for out-of-state specific students . . . We decided the scholarship was a really great way for him and his need to kind of live on and help people,” said Garver.
Olympic level Beavers
Oregon Staters hone their crafts with everything they have — so it’s no surprise that several of them are competing at the top globally. Taking part in the Olympic Games in Tokyo are: Jade Carey, Amar Dhesi, ’18, Ali Gibson, ’15, Jamie (Weisner) Scott, ’17, Tarni Stepto, Oregon State wrestling assistant coach Nate Engel and softball coach and four-time medalist Laura Berg who is back as an assistant.
A standout professor
Karen Wooley started her career as an undergraduate glassware washer for a research lab at Oregon State. Today, thanks in part to generous mentors, she’s one of the world’s foremost polymer chemists and recognized as the 2021 SEC Professor of the Year.
Distinguished engineers take center stage
The College of Engineering is now accepting nominations for the 2021 Oregon Stater Awards. These awards honor outstanding alumni for their contributions to the engineering profession and to Oregon State University. Send in your nominations by the Aug. 8 deadline — and save the date for a Nov. 18 ceremony in person and online.
