The new Pac-12, with seven schools joining OSU and WSU, has officially launched. Head Coach JaMarcus Shephard is at the helm, bringing his infectious energy and winning spirit. Ari Shapiro and Misty Copeland join Provost’s Lectures | Oct. 28 and Feb. 2

The Office of the Provost and the OSU Foundation announced that two speakers will bring their insights and cultural impact to Oregon State this fall and winter (registration forthcoming):

  • Ari Shapiro, Oct. 28: An evening of songs and stories with the bestselling author, nationally award-winning journalist and broadcaster who gained prominence over 25 years with NPR.
  • Misty Copeland, Feb. 2: Insights from a history-making 25-year career at the American Ballet Theatre and legacy as a bestselling author, public figure, entrepreneur and advocate for equity in the arts.

» Oregon State wrestlers Justin Rademacher, Daschle Lamer and Noah Tolentino brought home some impressive souvenirs from the U23 Pan American Championships held in Peru this June — two gold medals and a silver, respectively!

» Together we’re all in and invested in the future: An anonymous $15 million gift will make possible a Goss Stadium expansion, expected to be completed in 2028. The project includes a new right-field structure, adding permanent bleacher seating, a dedicated clubhouse for the Corvallis Knights Baseball Club and additional amenities for fans.

» Beyond the Field, a new Oregon Stater podcast, explores how the lessons student-athletes learned as Beavers shape their lives, careers and leadership long after the game ends. All six episodes are out now, featuring one of Beaver Football’s most accomplished players, Jacquizz Rodgers, ’21; gymnastics legend and national champion Joy Selig, ’92; “Giant Killers” football team member Steve Preece, ’69, and more. » Great news for Oregon State University and the State of Oregon: The National Science Foundation has selected Frontiers of Advanced Semiconductor Technology (FAST), an OSU-led Oregon consortium, as a Regional Innovation Engine. The award could provide up to $160 million over the next 10 years to grow Oregon’s semiconductor ecosystem. FAST will help move practical research into real-world use, connect startups and small businesses with investors and semiconductor companies, and create career pathways that prepare more people for jobs in the semiconductor industry.

» Chemical Engineering Professor Greg Rorrer and his lab are investigating the potential of a tiny marine creature that could help build a “photosynthetic cement,” a strong and durable building material without the steep environmental cost.

» OSU’s early investment in robotics research is helping fuel Oregon’s rise as a leader in physical AI, with research that launched the spinout company Agility — whose humanoid robot is already deployed in industry settings — and new infrastructure like the Jen-Hsun Huang and Lori Mills Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex accelerating what’s next.

» Musician Kyra Sims became one of just two musicians worldwide to have performed on all seven continents, writing and recording music on her French horn while on a Polar STEAM expedition with Antarctic scientists and researchers, a program facilitated by OSU.

» OSU Professor and Oregon Wine Research Institute Director James Osborne earned a national award for extension work that translates research into practical tools for the wine and grape industry.
