» A team led by bioengineering professor Adam Higgins is using machine learning to crack one of medicine’s biggest challenges — preserving human organs — opening the door to longer storage, broader access and lifesaving transplants worldwide.

» Wondering if your favorite running shoes are past their prime? Read this New York Times article featuring experts including OSU‑Cascades’ JJ Hannigan, whose research helps runners, athletes and everyday people with injury prevention.

» OSU College of Pharmacy researchers have developed a technique for simultaneously treating lung cancer and cachexia, the severe muscle-wasting syndrome that often accompanies it.

» Talk about setting students up for success: In 2024, 80% of OSU students who participated in the university’s comprehensive pre-med services were accepted to medical school. That’s nearly twice the national average acceptance rate.

» OSU’s highest faculty honor is recognizing professors Jack Barth and Dan Cox in 2026 for work that’s vital to coastal research and resilience and training students in real-world science.

Dam Proud, everywhere

Beaver Nation showed up in a big way on April 29! Dam Proud Day 2026 saw over 12,400 gifts totaling $4.1 million thanks to generous donors worldwide. Together, in just 24 hours, you made a remarkable impact on OSU students! Of nearly 200 funds participating, over 75 were student-led clubs and organizations, and 80% of projects supported students directly. And, because of support for the OSU Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, over $41,000 is anticipated to be distributed to undergraduates with strong financial need and terrific academic and extracurricular records next academic year.

» Oregon State Softball infielder Jaeya Butler shattered Oregon State’s single‑season home run record in April with her 18th of the year.

» In the latest Oregon Stater, Lamar Hurd, ’06, reflects on his journey from former Beaver point guard to revered Portland Trail Blazers television analyst, and the razor-sharp instincts that guided him.

» Go Beavs! Raya Nakao and Kate Nakaoka led Oregon State to a second-place finish for OSU Women’s Golf at the WCC Championship. The team goes on to compete in NCAA Division I regional play in Stanford, California, May 11–13.
