Lightning talks strike in Seattle | Feb. 10

Join the OSU Foundation and OSU Provost and Executive Vice President Roy Haggerty for an energizing evening of lightning talks from faculty at the forefront of discovery and innovation. Celebrating Victoria Nguyen, Alumni Legacy Award honoree

Victoria Nguyen, ’95, MAIS ’06, a workforce strategy and organizational effectiveness leader, has been named the 2026 Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Alumni Legacy Award recipient. Through her career in technology, health care and higher education, her service on the OSU Alumni Association board and her mentorship of students, she embodies the spirit of OSU’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration and its call to advance dignity, belonging and opportunity for all.

» Jen-Hsun Huang, NVIDIA founder and CEO, was named the Financial Times Person of the Year for 2025. His visionary leadership in AI and philanthropy supporting OSU’s Jen-Hsun Huang and Lori Mills Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex — opening in 2027 — shape the future of innovation.

» From the sizzling of trapped air bubbles bursting to rumbling calving events, OSU professor of geophysics and glaciology Erin Pettit brought the sounds of melting glaciers to Science Friday and discussed the multistage robot tools she and her team use to monitor melting ice.

» Oregon State earned its third Carnegie Community Engagement Classification, recognizing the university’s deep, statewide collaborations and its work addressing urgent community needs through teaching, research and outreach.

» Congratulations to Nikki Gold, a U.S. Navy veteran and public health student at OSU, who was named the 2025 National Student Veteran of the Year. Selected from a pool of more than 600,000 student veterans nationwide, Gold is the first openly LGBTQ+ veteran to receive this honor.

» The New Yorker recently spotlighted OSU’s nationally recognized research, led by Professor of Enology Elizabeth Tomasino, whose team is pinpointing the compounds responsible for wildfire “smoke taint.” Their findings help vineyards and winemakers evaluate and respond to smoke-exposed grapes.

» Beaver Baseball landed two spots on D1Baseball’s “D1 Dozen” top plays of 2025. Coming in at No. 6: Down 4–1 in the ninth with two outs, OSU staged a dramatic comeback to take Game 1 of the Corvallis Super Regional. And at No. 9: Shortstop Aiva Arquette’s impressive spin-and-fire play in Omaha.

» Congrats to a Beaver legend: Arnau Farnós made program history as the first Oregon State Men’s Soccer player to earn multiple All-America honors.
