April 04, 2024 | Women's Gymnastics

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Oregon State gymnastics was in action Thursday night, finishing with a 196.450 team score at the NCAA Regional event hosted by the University of Arkansas. Jade Carey was named Regional Champion in three separate events as the junior looks towards an appearance at Nationals in a few weeks.

Oregon State started the event on beam and was led off by Ariana Young, who posted a 9.825. Jennifer McMillan would soon be given a 9.750 before Sophia Esposito earned a 9.850 for her eighth 9.850 or higher this season; Carey rounded out the beam rotation with a 9.950 in what would be her first Regional Championship-winning routine.

The Beavers would excel during the meet's second rotation, which was floor exercise. Kaitlin Garcia led off the lineup with a 9.850 before a Young 9.900. Sage Thompson and Sophia Esposito posted back-to-back 9.850s which set the stage for Carey, who delivered with her second perfect 10 on the floor in as many meets, rounding out a 49.450 rotation score while securing her second event title of the meet and sixth-career 10.

Up next for OSU was the vault, which was started with a pair of 9.750s from Natalie Briones and Kaitlin Garcia. Sage Thompson was given a 9.800 before Olivia Buckner stuck the landing on what would later be announced as a 9.900, marking her second-consecutive meet with a 9.900 vault. Esposito (9.800) and Carey (9.825) rounded out the third rotation.

OSU's highly-ranked bars lineup rounded out the meet, starting with an Esposito 9.700. Briones then tied a career-high with a 9.900 as the trio of McMillan (9.875), Thompson (9.925) and Carey (9.900) helped the Beavers to a 49.300 rotation score.

When the final scores were in, OSU finished with a 196.450, as Carey finished with an all-around score of 39.675 that was the top score among gymnasts in the session. By winning the three events (AA, FX and BB), Carey officially surpassed Chari Knight's program record for event titles, winning her 117th to take sole possession of first place in Beaver gymnastics history.

Though the team score was not enough to advance to the national event held April 17-21 in Fort Worth, Texas, multiple Oregon State gymnasts may qualify with their scores from the regional. Specifics details will be released as they become available.
