“Votes for Women,” from the Leaf Girls series, by Anna Fidler, Senior Instructor of Art, College of Liberal Arts
In this piece, the 'Leaf Girls', who are environmentalist feminists, are paying homage to vigilant suffragist Emily Davison, who in 1913 lost her life at the derby in an attempt to attach a suffragist silk scarf to the king's horse as it crossed the finish line. The Leaf Girls, dressed as jockeys, exuberantly carry Davison's scarf to victory.
