Brian Woods, professor and head of the School of Nuclear Science and Engineering in the Oregon State University College of Engineering, has been appointed by President Joe Biden to the U.S. Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board. Woods, the Henry W. and Janice J. Schuette Chair in Nuclear Engineering and Radiation Health Physics (an endowed position), has been at Oregon State since 2003, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses on applied thermal hydraulics, nuclear reactor safety, fluid dynamics, nuclear rules and regulations, and the societal aspects of nuclear technology. Congratulations, I worked in the Nuclear Chemistry department under Dr Roman Schmith analysing lunar soil from 1973-76, and have fond memories of OSU.

1ySorry if this is a duplicate. This is such an important position. Good to see another Beaver up and “atom”. I have long been a proponent of nuclear power generation but have been very concerned about spent fuel storage and containment. Perhaps the fusion track will allow us to further propagate nuclear energy production and mitigate that concern. All the best to Dr. Woods. Oregon State University
