Spend a Saturday with Beavers engaging in volunteer projects that commemorate Dr. King’s legacy of serving others and his vision for strong communities. Oregon State’s 41st Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration week begins with a university-wide day of service, the annual Peace Breakfast and the Peace March.

Alternatives to plastic food packaging

Cranberries: They’re good for more than a tart juice or a sauce at Thanksgiving. According to OSU food science professor Yanyun Zhao, they’re a great source for creating a dissolvable, no-waste film that could someday replace traditional packaging materials. She’s currently refining the product for a more sustainable future.

OSU KidSpirit director earns philanthropic partner award

Congratulations to Karen Swanger for being selected as the 2022 OSU Loyal Philanthropic Partner Award recipient in recognition of her steadfast giving, fundraising and support of OSU’s culture of philanthropy. Her efforts are making KidSpirit more accessible to youth of all backgrounds, now and in the future.

“I think this is a paradigm-shifting moment”

The U.S. Department of Energy awarded a $3 million grant for OSU chemistry professor Xiulei “David” Ji to lead the development of a new battery that does not rely on rare elements. Ji says the research could revolutionize the way we power our world and store renewable energy.
