New satellite tag unlocks long-term whale observation

The Marine Mammal Institute’s Daniel Palacios and other OSU researchers developed a new satellite tag that allows tracking of previously unobservable whale feeding behaviors. It can also be used to understand how whales are impacted by human activity and guide solutions. To provide education about whales to all who visit the Oregon Coast, OSU is simultaneously raising funds to clean, reconstruct and display an impressive 70-foot blue whale skeleton at the Hatfield Marine Science Center.
