The munk-skukum Indigenous Living Learning Community offers a residential space for students to find community, explore cultural identity and learn more about the lands on which they will be residing. This community offers connections to other students with a shared interest in centering Indigenous people, to cultural events on campus and to resources to help support students while they are at Oregon State University. munk-skukum means “to strengthen” in chinuk wawa (the local trade language), and we believe a strong community is central to your time at Oregon State.

Oregon State University is located on Kalapuya land and as such, we give thanks and respect to the Grand Ronde and Siletz Tribes they are now a part of.

Academic Curriculum

  • In fall, students living in the munk-skukum LLC are expected to take Ethnic Studies 241, Introduction to Native American Studies. During winter term, Ethnic Studies 101 will be offered for both munk-skukum and Nia LLC community members.

Campus Community

There are many ways to be involved in community on campus. The Kaku-Ixt Mana Ina Haws serves as a hub of Indigenous-based activities at Oregon State. Events are offered throughout the year like the annual Salmon Bake and Klatowa Eena Pow-Wow. We also host open beading every Friday.

You can also learn more about student organizations there as well, including the Native American Student Association, RAD Indigenous Queer & Two-Spirit Student Alliance, Pacific Islander Club, multicultural Greek letter organizations and more.
