Oregon will soon have a buzz-worthy new license plate on the roads that will support pollinators, including the more than 600 species of bees found across the state.

As of Wednesday, the Oregon State University Horticulture Department had reached its goal of 3,000 vouchers for the “Pollinator Paradise” plates.

With the voucher goal reached, they will begin the production process of the license plates, which is expected to take 4 to 6 months.

The design is the creation of Marek Stanton, a high school student from Estacada, and features a honeybee and a yellow-faced bumble bee over a clover field.

Proceeds from the license plates will support research programs focusing on keeping pollinator populations healthy.

While the vouchers are sold out the plates will eventually be available at Oregon DMV locations. There's more information about the plate here.

The department said reaching its goal line coincides with the Oregon Clover Commission’s annual meeting in Wilsonville.

People who already purchased a voucher for the new plates can exchange them at the DMV. Other fees may apply, depending on when your vehicle's tags expire.
